DM tools and settings
Learn how to manage monster stats and UI settings during encounters.
When you run an encounter in Mithril Forge, you see details your players do not. The DM view provides extra tools to manage the game state.
Monster stat blocks
Section titled “Monster stat blocks”You don’t need to flip through books to check a goblin’s armor class. When you add a monster from the Open5e database to an encounter, its full stat block travels with it.
Click any monster’s name in the initiative list to open its stat block. You get immediate access to its hit points and available actions. The player view updates to highlight the monster’s turn, but the players never see the actual stats. They just see the name and a health status indicator like “Injured” or “Near Death.”
Stat visibility
Section titled “Stat visibility”You decide how much meta-knowledge the players get. The settings panel lets you adjust stat visibility across the whole encounter.
| Setting | What players see | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| All | Exact hit points and armor class for every combatant. | When you want to speed up the math and don’t care about mystery. |
| Party-only | Numbers for player characters and their allies only. | When players need to coordinate healing but enemy stats should stay hidden. |
| Hidden | No numbers at all. | When you want players to rely entirely on your descriptions of who looks hurt. |
